Package manager
This module is in alpha state. This alpha version is intended for testing and evaluation purposes only and must not be used in production environments. |
When you use built-in import and export features in Magnolia, they may not scale to large amounts of data. To move content quickly and conveniently from one environment to another, you can use the Package Manager. It’s designed to handle gigabytes of data reliably and prevent long waiting times.
The Package manager module is based on FileVault and allows you move data between Magnolia instances via packages. A package contains compressed workspace content from one of your Magnolia instances.
When importing data, it’s imported in the same order as it was on the source instance. The target instance is reordered if necessary to match the content from the source instance.
Filters allow you to export a specific workspace and there are various modes to handle differences in content between instances on import. To use Package Manager, your system administrator must assign your user the necessary permissions, including read and write access to the workspace you want to export.
Use cases
Magnolia Package Manager is commonly used for:
-
Transferring packaged content between environments
-
Deploying sensitive embargoed content
Examples of embargoed content packages
New product launches
When launching a new product, for example introducing a new mobile phone to the market, it is kept strictly confidential up until the launch date and time. All content related to the new product (news releases, product landing pages, support related information, global and regional rollouts) must be released at an exact time.
Publishing of quarterly results of a publicly traded company
Legislators require publicly traded companies to publish their quarterly financial results on their public websites by a specific date and time each quarter. Failure to comply with this requirement results in substantial financial penalties. In addition, financial results are confidential before publication to prevent insider trading. You can prepare them offline so that no one else, not even in draft status, can see the information, as leaks could occur.
